In 1986, Thailand held its first National Occupational Safety and Health Week from June 1st to 3rd. At that time, the organizing committee proposed the establishment of an occupational safety association and suggested that the National Occupational Safety and Health Week should continue annually, with the newly formed association participating and the Department of Labour (at that time) acting as coordinator. Subsequently, the Cabinet, under the impetus of Police Lieutenant Colonel Charn Manutham, the then Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, approved the Department of Labour's proposal to establish the "Association for the Promotion of Occupational Safety and Health (Thailand)".
